There’s Nothing Like a Long Run to Remember Everything I’ve Forgotten!
Oh My! How true a statement!! I usually go on a few ‘short’ training runs per week and one long run. It’s always on my long run that I have at least one ‘Oh, CRAP!’ moment where I recall something I have completely forgotten from the preceding days, weeks, months or even years. Just recently, I told a woman that I would meet up with her after work on Friday. It slipped my mind completely until 2 miles into my run…
Sometimes it will be something horrible and comical that I remember forgetting…Such as forgetting to put on my anti-chafe cream between my butt crack OR realizing mid-run that I forgot how sensitive my stomach is to whey and I ate that protein bar that is now trying to escape my body in any direction possible.
I often have those uplifting moments where I remember people from my past that I need to get back in touch with or at lease send a text that I am thinking about them…The problem with this is that I usually forget these thoughts by the time I finish my run.
I’m pretty sure that all of my ‘forgetting’ is just human nature. But there are times that I wonder if my VAD/Strokes affect my memory more than I realize. I try not to dwell and focus on the positive; At lease I am able to get out and RUN despite my health issues, which, in turn, boost serotonin and pump oxygen into my brain that desperately needs it.
At lease I can remember things that I’ve forgotten…Even if I forget again and have to remember on my next run…
